Service Premium
The service premium is extra funding for schools to support children and young people with parents in the armed forces. Schools will receive £300 for each eligible pupil. Pupils attract the premium if they meet the following criteria:
- one of their parents is serving in the regular armed forces
- they have been registered as a ‘service child’ in the school census at any point since 2011
- one of their parents died while serving in the armed forces and the pupil receives a pension under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) or the War Pensions Scheme (WPS)
We have a limited number of Armed Forces families at Leslie Manser Primary school. Rather than a generic approach, we look at the needs of each child and look to what we can provide to support their learning and social and emotional well-being.
Service Premium Strategy 2023-24
The Service Premium for 2023-24 is £335 per qualifying pupil. We have received a £1675 Service Pupil Premium allocation, based upon 5 pupils.

To develop their musical ability through paid for music lessons |
Musical instrument tuition to be fully paid for all service premium pupils who wish to lean an instrument |
Learning to play an instrument is a brilliant lifelong skill and studies have been shown to prove the educational merit of such an activity. We feel it also provides something clear for SP pupils to focus on. |
The SP lead will ensure that all pupils and parents/guardians are informed of this exciting opportunity to learn to play an instrument. Any child who already plays an instrument, will automatically receive the funding and will no longer have to fund music tuition |
